Our study criteria is below:

Adopted Foster Youth

Children will spend 40 minutes a week for several weeks learning strategies and techniques for how to learn and study more effectively.

They will also complete three 45 minute sessions of filling out surveys about anxiety, loneliness, and other related constructs.

Each child will receive a $10 gift card to Amazon by email after each survey session, for a total of $30.

For adopted foster youth who are:

  • 9-16 Years Old
  • Fluent in English
  • Able to Commit 6-8 Weeks
  • Not in a mentorship program
  • All Participants are eligible for a total of $30

This is a research study for adopted foster youth, but is being conducted by the UCLA Study staff, which acts separately as a third party. Participation will not affect any programs/treatment received through outside programs. Undergraduate student mentors are also participants in this study and are not study staff.

UCLA Undergraduate Students

This is an opportunity to be trained in strategies and techniques for how to learn and study more effectively. Participants may be mentoring children from one of the following organizations: UCLA TIES/NextUP/LA guardian scholars/Foster and Kinship Care for approximately 40 minutes a week using these strategies and will be required to attend approximately 7 hours of training. You may gain mentorship experience to add to your CV.

For UCLA undergraduates who are:

  • 18-24 Years Old
  • Fluent in English
  • Able to Commit to 6-8 Weeks
  • Not currently mentors

All participants will be entered into a raffle to earn a $60 gift card
