About Us

The UCLA Learning Program aims to improve the well-being of former foster youth using research guided by UCLA faculty, postdoctoral, and doctoral researchers. In a virtual and mentorship-based research program, we pair former foster youth with UCLA undergraduate mentors. During this time, they learn strategies related to self-development, mindset, and education, and cultivate bonds with their UCLA mentor. Our curriculum is designed based on research from mindset training, self-efficacy, and the science of learning to engage student comfort in the learning process, as a means of improving long-term knowledge retention.
